Diverting group biography of the Kardashian sisters of the 1950's

This is almost certainly the best book available on the Gabor family, even though it's pretty old by now. It's a good balance of discussion of their entertainment careers with their often-controversial (to say the very least) private lives; the story of how Jolie and Magda fled Hungary with the help of the Portuguese ambassador to that country (the women were in real danger of being swept up by the Nazis because of the family's Jewish background) is genuinely nail-biting. Eva, who was noted for her professionalism and hard work and who had the longest and most active show-business career of the three sisters, comes off the best in this book. Zsa Zsa, by contrast, looks, at best, shallow and materialistic, and often capable of very foolish behavior, which is especially shown in the accounts of her affairs with infamous playboy Porfirio Rubirosa and dictator's son
Ramfis Trujillo, which pretty much wrecked her Hollywood career so that she was reduced to being a talk-show and game-show fixture thereafter. (This book was written in 1985, or else Brown would have had a field day with the notorious 1989 incident in which Zsa Zsa slapped a policeman who had pulled her over for a traffic violation; when her driver's license was found to have been crudely altered - Zsa Zsa was positively obsessed with hiding her true age to the extent that late in her life, her claimed birth dates were materially impossible - she had the chutzpah to claim that it had been stolen and changed by Mexican immigrants.) The Gabor sisters will never be counted among Hollywood's true leading lights, but they were, like the Kardashian sisters in the 2000's and 2010's, mainstays of the period's tabloid press.

This book was purchased as a birthday gift for a friend who is Hungarian and has always love the Gabor sisters. I'm sure whe will love it.

~I LOVE THIS BOOK~

This is an amazing book. When I first started to read it, it captured me and I coulden't put the book down! A book acually worth reading. If you enjoyed this book there are some others I recommed like "One Lifetime Is Not Enough", "Zsa Zsa Gabor", "Orchids and Salami".
