Just okay. Need a better book out there!

Here are some specific comments that might help you if you're thinking of buying this book:
1) I like the layout and ease of use. The drills seem to match what the College Board has released in their 4 practice tests.
2) The book clearly went to press before some changes were made by the College Board. It includes information that is not up-to-date (e.g. they reference a 4-point Extended Thinking question which the College Board is not going to use. They will still have some Item Sets, but each question is worth 1 point.)
3) I think they overuse their Plugging In and PITA strategies. Although a few questions (2-3) in the practice tests released by the College Board could be solved this way, this book solved every single contextual question in the Heart of Algebra Drill 3 this way. It is clearly not the fastest way to answer these questions, especially if they appear in the No Calculator section of the test. Also, they explained the strategies using questions that look more like the old SAT. They did, at least, also say you could solve the questions algebraically and offered a (weak) explanation.
4) In the introduction, they mention that the math test will be divided into a Calculator and No-Calculator section, but they make absolutely no distinction as to which questions in the practice drills might wind up where, until the very last domain - Additional Topics in Math.
5) The explanations are a bit weak - no real strategies, but rather just the basic steps to arriving at the answer. I don't think this would help my granddaughter who struggles with math.
6) There is no mention of the Formula page in the math sections. Students need to be reminded that the formulas are given on the test and that they should refer to it rather than trying to memorize all the formulas.
7) There are VERY few Grid-In questions to practice.
8) I think every SAT practice book should come with at least one full-length practice test and a scoring guide, even if the scores are only an estimate.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

As an SAT tutor for the last 22 years, and one who has weathered the storms of previous SAT revisions, I found nothing of value in this book. Purchase or download the official College Board materials. Do not use poor imitations of the new tests like these. The strategies listed for reading are practically non-existent and the readings fail to come close to the complexity of the new passages that are often drawn from 19th century and 20th century writing.

Great at first

When this book first came out it was really the most up to date there was. It included a lot of great drills and information that we needed on the SAT. Now that the official guide has come out, this one is a little outdated. I do not suggest that you buy this one now, choose a newer version.

This book seems written more for people with experience in Probability and Statistics. The examples in the chapters were not explained very well for a novice. The text itself was helpful. This would be good as a side reference in a class, or it might benefit someone with more experience in the topic.

An Excellent Statistics Book for CS Students

Second edition of "Probability and Statistics with Reliability, Queuing and Computer Science Applications" by Kishor S. Trivedi is a highly recommendable book. The concepts provided for probability theory and stochastic processes are excellent for students of communication, networking and computer science. It provides a good understanding of stochastic processes and Markov chains which are very relevant for students and teachers especially working in the speech processing area. I found the book and its contents very relevant and the examples provided could be very well related to networking and computer science, a unique aspect of this book. The students grasped the concepts well and found the problems very challenging and helpful in building up their concepts and knowledge. I had previously taught a number of other books and introduced this book last year at my University, I feel very satisfied and content with the decision of choosing this book for my students. All eleven chapters are equipped with excellent examples, problems and exercises broadening the reader's mind. The first 5 chapters constitute the probability theory while the rest of the chapters emphasize on stochastic processes very relevant to students of advanced networking and speech processing. Other books on probability and statistics usually lack an important aspect specially when used for computer science and telecommunication students. The examples and exercises not only make students learn and understand and probability and statistics concepts but also create its relevance to their very fields, therefore the book is an extremely precious gift from Prof. Trivedi specially for the students of computer science and telecommunication. An inexpensive Asian edition (paperback), a solution manual and powerpoint slides of each chapter are now available.
Prof. Trivedi has done a tremendous job in introducing topics of advanced research not found before; the students gained knowledge about the modern research environment and felt confident too. This book is not only recommended for beginners but also for professionals and engineers.

I took this course from Kishor a long time ago, using the first edition. The only problem with the first edition was that the bindings wore out: as a result, I've had several copies (including copies of the Indian student's edition I got while it was out of print in this country.) I did not do particularly well in the class; none the less I use the things I learned from his book literally every working day.
I'm about to order a copy of the second edition. Anyone else working with these things should do so also.

My son loves this book.

Although I had issues with the condition of the book, I am giving this five stars, because the quality of what is taught is excellent. We are a homeschool family, and my son absolutely loves History this year. You will need to supplement for current US History, of course, as this book is a little older, but a solid foundation and then some definitely makes this a good buy.

H.R. D'Costa delivers a very helpful resource for any creative or screenplay writer, regardless of the genre. The author highlights the importance of 'when and why your hero must go through a living hell.' In addition, movie examples are presented to show the reader the utmost importance of drama, and emotion.

More important, the author discusses the horror situations of why writers get stuck, winding up with blank pages, as the reader is coached in the right direction with the right approach. The information provided, along with helpful examples given by the author guides the writer in creating the difference between a boring novel or screenplay, or a fascinating story that keeps the reader entertained from start to finish. Great advice, packed with helpful tips, and extremely useful for screenplays or creative writing. Highly recommended!

This book does a great job on getting you brainstorming the ending of your Act 2. And does a good job of showing you how that will ultimately influence other aspects of your story.

Unfortunately like most books on writing this book takes on the form of make a minor point followed by 10 film examples...then make next minor point followed by 10 film examples. Over and over and over again.

I often would get to the end of a section and the next bold point would be "Aspect #3 Paradoxical." I would have to think back 50+ pages in the past and be like oh ya I am still in the "3 Aspects of 2nd Act endings" section.

This virtual series by H.R. D'Costa is hitting critical areas that screenwriters new and old must emphasize to wring all of the emotional potential out of their characters and stories. There's a lot here to absorb. The movie examples used are helpful and appropriate - often even more than is needed. Many of today's screenwriting publishings don't focus on the most critical dramatic story sequences, which is why I think this specific focus is of great value. You'll find yourself outlining the types and approaches here, and coming out the other side with a new perspective on your screenplay.

About the Author
David William Neubauer has taught at the University of Florida, at Washington University in St. Louis, and most recently at the University of New Orleans. In addition to this best-selling text, he is the author of DEBATING CRIME: RHETORIC AND REALITY, and BATTLE SUPREME: THE CONFIRMATION OF CHIEF JUSTICE JOHN ROBERTS AND THE FUTURE OF THE SUPREME COURT, both from Wadsworth. His articles have appeared in a wide array of scholarly journals, including Law and Society Review, Judicature, Policy Studies Journal, and Law and Policy Quarterly. Dr. Neubauer's current research interests include nominations to the Supreme Court and religion in public life.

Stephen S. Meinhold is Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where he teaches classes on Judicial Politics, Constitutional Law, the Presidency, and Research Methods. Dr. Meinhold recently published the new Wadsworth title BATTLE SUPREME: THE CONFIRMATION OF CHIEF JUSTICE JOHN ROBERTS AND THE FUTURE OF THE SUPREME COURT. Professor Meinhold's current research focuses on college students' use of attorneys, their plans to attend law school, and their attitudes about the legal system. He has published articles in POLITICAL RESEARCH QUARTERLY, SOCIAL SCIENCE QUARTERLY, JUSTICE SYSTEM JOURNAL, and PS: POLITICAL SCIENCE AND POLITICS.
