Liked it, didn't love it

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the books, the historical setting and descriptive writing. The characters, on the other hand, I did not love. The women of this trilogy drove me a little crazy. All of them were terribly immature and selfish. At the end of each book there was always something of a transformation, but it was often too late for me. There were times when I really had to push myself to finish the story, simply because the heroine was being so annoying! Still, there were things I enjoyed about the books, so I give the trilogy a generous three stars.

Women pirates! Love story! Four sisters raised by seagoing father! Wars! Intrigue! Excitement! Character development of diverse characters! Something for everyone. Most fun reading that I have done in a long time.

Great trilogy

I really enjoyed these books. Honestly, the first books was my least favorite. There is something about Faith, the heroine, from the first book that I find unbelievable. However, as the book progressed I grew to like her. The other two books I have no complaints. Overall they are a great read about colonial America.

Red River Gorge greatest climbing book ever!

This is an amazing guide. It is so easy to find approaches with this guide and all the directions are from Miguel's. Star system is spot on all the classics are 4 and 5 stars. Great for all skill levels really easy to use. And it even tells you when are the best times to climb at certain walls. Great for planning successful days of climbing.

Best guide book out there.

Simple--this is the best guide available for RRG climbing. A little expensive, but worth it. Durable cover and pages (cover also functions as bookmark). Sectioned off well. Good maps and driving/approach directions. Accurate for # of bolts and length of climbs (not sure why some climbing books don't include these two very important pieces of info). Tick list by trad/sport and grade is a great feature, although a few climbs in Muir Valley are missing in the 2ed.

Best climbing guidebook I have ever purchased

I just bought this in preparation for my first trip to Red River Gorge, and since I haven't climbed there yet, my review is necessarily limited. However, this guidebook is very well organized, printed on glossy paper, and has extremely good photographs throughout. The production quality alone makes it the best guidebook I have in my collection. Information about the climbs is thorough and has allowed me to plan my upcoming trip to get the most bang for the buck.

About the Author
Charlie Hopper is a principal at Young & Laramore advertising, and has been marketing restaurants for over 20 years. He teaches advertising and writing at Butler University, blogs at SellingEating.com, and has spoken at the National Restaurant Association’s annual trade show about effective restaurant communications.

He’s also a contributor to Food & Drink International and Adweek, and has a column about the role of food and restaurants in works of fiction at The Onion’s A.V. Club website. His work for restaurants—especially his long tenure as creative director and writer for Steak ’n Shake restaurants—has been featured in The New York Times, Communication Arts, and Nation’s Restaurant News. He’d been creative director for Steak ’n Shake restaurants for many years at the point Nation’s Restaurant News said of the agency’s work, “They respect the intelligence of consumers. They set Steak ’n Shake apart from the competition without resorting to gimmicks or stale jokes.” Six different CEOs and CMOs credited that work as the main engine of growth as the chain went from 150 restaurants to over 500 while the agency handled everything from TV ads to chili pepper bottle labels.

Hopper lives in Indianapolis with his wife and three kids, all of whom prefer different restaurants.

Delightful. Truly.

Over the years, I've read any number of highly-recommended business books. While many offer valuable insight and advice, I've found most of them dry and less-than-enjoyable to read. Finally, there's a book that draws upon the author's experience and expertise to provide meaningful, actionable direction for those considering how to market a restaurant...but does so in an engaging, entertaining way. Hopper's prose is conversational and approachable; it's easy to imagine sitting down with him (possibly at your favorite restaurant?) and having an incredibly interesting discussion about what's right and wrong with the place. Whether you're an entrepreneur considering opening a restaurant; an independent mom-and-pop; a small, regional brand; or someone responsible for the marketing of a much larger, well-known company, the insights Hopper has gleaned and shared in this book will help make you more successful in your pursuits.

I'm purchasing copies for everyone on my staff and making it required reading.

What Julia Child did for those who want to cook well, Charlie Hopper has done for those who want to sell what's cooking. The book tears down the myths of restaurant marketing and replaces them with the facts. Namely, that branding is the secret ingredient to selling your eats. Hopper exposes the pitfalls of restaurant marketing, showing how to avoid cliché marketing and clearly separate your brand from the competition. All of this information is written with wit as well as wisdom. Anyone in the restaurant business, particularly franchisees, should read "Selling Eating."

Great content but worst printed version ever

The book content is quite good. It covers discrete-time detection well but still covers less topics than Kay's book. The continuous-time detection is covered superficially but it may give a good idea of the theorems for non-expert people. Grab Poor's book instead if you want a more detailed explanation on the later.

As an introduction book is totally worth the money.

The problem this book has is the printed quality. It sucks!
It actually looks like a faxed document!
I don't know if CRC press is trying to save money or what, but the print is the worst ever. With this problem, the reading of te book is exhausting, taking more time to read it because you need to take breaks to avoid headaches.

Bad publisher

The publisher (CRC Press) has ruined a good book by using cheap, low quality materials. Graphs don't show up in the book and a lot of the text is literally falling off the page. I went back to the book store where I purchased the book to get an exchange, but all of their books are doing the same thing. It's a shame that $120 can only get you a poor quality book.

Spiritual Discourses is a “must read” and I recommend this EXCELLENT reading for Muslim and non-Muslim readers.

Spiritual Discourses is definitely one of the most unique spiritual books I have ever read. The title of this book is so inspiring! The cover design is so elegant, so beautiful, and so eye-catching! I really liked the dedication section where the author wrote so appreciatively that, “My inspiring teacher behind this work was my father who constantly urged me to ponder and to draw upon my own understanding and insights from the Qur’an.” Obviously, it reveals his deep love as much as his deep appreciation and respect for his very first teacher, whom was his father.

I was very impressed with the organization of this gorgeous book. Each chapter is filled with all the glorious verses from the magnificent Qur’an, which provides deeper insight into lessons taught from this brilliant book. The collection of all the divine verses from the glorious Qu’ran engages the readers’ mind so delightfully which leads to new discoveries about themselves. In addition, these marvelous verses serve as guidelines for readers in understanding how to use all the suggested and beautiful guiding principles from the holy Qur’an and Prophet Mohammad’s (pbuh) sayings. As result, through the light of all the readings, I discovered the pure love and true beautify of Islam.

Furthermore, these amazing readings help the readers (Muslims and non-Muslims) to transform their lives in ways that make it easy for them to love their lives and their faith more than yesterday and today for a better tomorrow.

Unquestionably, I am sure, like me, all the readers will love, enjoy and adore this outstanding and BEAUTIFUL book! And it is a “must read” and I recommend this EXCELLENT reading for Muslim and non-Muslim readers.

Dr. Sherali has compacted lots of advice and guidance based on Quran and the life of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in this beautifully written book. The author’s love for the Quran, the Prophet and the universal message of Islam is succinctly shines through in 235 pages & 33 short chapters.

Every chapter starts with a beautiful verse from the Quran and then reflects and expands on the comprehensive meaning of that verse. I would recommend the reader to pause and reflect before moving forward from a paragraph to the next while reading this book. If you want to benefit from this book, take your sweet time reading and reflecting.

Let me give you a brief on chapter 16 of the book to pique your interest. In this chapter, the author expounds on few basic principles of life that are strongly rooted in the precepts and teachings of Islam.
- If someone does good to you, never forget it; if you do good to someone, never remember it
- If you don’t get what you like, then learn to like what you get
- Learn from your mistakes
- Accept criticism as a means of self-improvement
- Do not be consumed by hate

Chapter 14 is about the Principles of the Prophet (PBUH) and chapter 21 is full of beautiful supplications from the Quran. I would highly recommend this book.

Inspirational Word Find

This was a gift. I flipped through it before I gave it to her; I too would enjoy it. We're both word find junkies, not looking to rehab anytime soon. We keep feeding each other's addiction :) She absolutely loves the inspirational nature of the puzzles.
