Interesting, but the author omits most of the "how to" aspects

First, the Amazon website description does not inform you what is contained in the "Forward" of the book. And that is, the author and publisher have assumed that you have attended a retreat or workshop at the Ramtha/Knight school or that you are at least familiar with the book Ramtha: A Beginner's Guide to Creating Reality (3rd Edition).

I bought 9 of these little Ramtha "fireside" books and will try to post a review of all of them as I read them, so you can click on the link for my other reviews. I'm reviewing the 2006 Revised edition of Crossing the River, which is about three pages shorter than the original version.

Ramtha states that a person who finds lessons in nature becomes a lover of nature and they become in union with nature. They are a master in the making and can cross the river and can walk on water because they are the water and can command the water to be still and become a bridge.

Ramtha states on page 34, "I taught you how to do the miraculous" and also, if you had heard everything that I have taught and applied yourself, then you will have a crossing. However, when Ramtha says "I taught you how to do the miraculous," he does not mean that he taught it in this book--or any of his other books. He also refers to the "Great Work" (the application of knowledge by which the person becomes enlightened and is transmuted into an immortal, divine being) and the "analogical mind" (the alignment of the primary and secondary consciousnesses, the "observer" and the personality along with the opening of the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th seals). None of these concepts are taught in this book. There is no chapter on how to actually "cross the river."

The book does have a few suggestions on things to work on, like purity of spirit, being honest, maintaining focus, and cleaning the soul and the mind. There is much said of how not to cross the river. Keeping your mind in the past, thinking about the things that went wrong or right, the resentment, expectations, victimization, and the games you play etc. are all ways to keep one foot on the shore so that you will never cross the river and you will continue to manifest the same life you've had before.

After reading this book and Ramtha's Beginner's Guide to Creating Reality, I learned that the actual techniques for how to be create your own reality are only taught in the Ramtha/Knight workshops. So one could say that buying this book is similar to attending a free lecture given prior to workshop in which the concepts are introduced, but you have to pay for the workshop if you actually want learn the techniques.

Other thoughts: Ramtha states (on page 36) that reality begins in the mind, not in the physical, and also references instantaneous manifestation (page 46). There are other books that share this type of quantum physics outlook, such as the Matrix Energetics book by Richard Bartlett. Ramtha talks about being totally present in the moment, and there are other books on this topic such as the books by Eckhart Tolle (e.g The Power of Now and The New Earth).

The Power of Living in the Now

Each book in the Ramtha's Fireside Collection revolves around one central topic. The topic of this book deals with the importance of living in the now and the fact that one won't be going spiritually anywhere fast without willingness to let go of the past and be fully present in the moment.

The book deals with some truths that are presented at much greater length in A Course in Miracles - as the entire training manual from A Course in Miracles guides the person through the process of realizing that his mind is preoccupied with past thoughts, helping the person to let go of them and live fully in the present.

Holding onto the past, emotionally, keeps the individual's energy locked in the past and prevents the individual from accomplishing effortlessly many wonderful things which the individual could accomplish in the present moment.

A simple act of forgiveness and just letting go of whatever has happened in the past has helped numerous individuals experience instant healings.

Any conflict that anyone can ever experience is based upon dragging something from the past into the present moment - upon

comparing and judging, instead of just being fully present in the moment.

By living in the present one moves into a timeless zone - his entire energy available to flow freely to create desired reality now, without any obstructions - affording the individual to experience in the outer world even instant manifestations. One moment you think a thought, the next moment it is manifested in your outer experience.

That's why some people, like Jung, would say that you know you are moving forward along your spiritual path when you are experiencing increased number of synchronicities. Synchronicities are simply instant manifestation of one's thoughts which are possible because the individual has become a "clear" channel and is free of any obstructions and encumbrances from the past.

There is yet another wonderful side-effect of being fully present in the moment - as anyone who has wholeheartedly worked with A Course in Miracles can attest to - you begin to feel more vibrantly alive than you ever felt before, you also begin to experience boundless joy, happiness and power.

About the Author

Katar Singh is currently Honorary (Founder) Chairman, India Natural Resource Economics and Management (INREM) Foundation, Anand, which is a nongovernmental academic organization committed to promoting teaching, training, and research in natural resource economics and environment management, and improving natural resource management policies and programs. He holds a PhD in agricultural economics from the University of Illinois, Urbana–Champaign, USA, and has done postdoctoral research and advanced coursework in natural resource economics in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Oregon State University, Corvallis, USA and in the Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis, Indiana University Bloomington, USA.

He has over 50 years of teaching, training, research, and consulting experience in the areas of agricultural and rural development, and natural resource economics and management. He was the director and RBI Chair Professor in the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), India, and also had a short stint as Director, Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Lucknow. He has also taught at G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India.

He has coordinated and conducted several research and consultancy projects funded by national and international agencies. A prolific writer, he has published over 120 articles and papers in professional journals of repute and has authored/co-authored nine books, including a textbook, Rural Development: Principles, Policies, and Management, second ed. (SAGE, 1999), and another entitled Environmental Economics: Theory and Applications (SAGE, 2007), coauthored with Dr Anil Shishodia. He has also co-edited three books, namely, Co-operative Management of Natural Resources (SAGE, 1996), Natural Resource Economics: Theory and Application in India (1997), and Designing and Managing Rural Development Organizations (2000).

Professor Singh is a life member of numerous professional bodies, including the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE), Indian Society for Ecological Economics, and International Society for Ecological Economics. He is a recipient of several awards and honors, including Rathindra Puraskar 2003, awarded by Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, in recognition of his significant contribution to education in rural development and Sir Chhotu Ram National Award for the year 1996–97, awarded by CSS Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, in recognition of his outstanding research work in the field of agriculture and rural development.

About the Author
Associate Professor of Science Education, University of South Florida Dr. Malcolm Butler's teaching and research addresses multicultural issues in the classroom. He has worked to support typically underserved student populations and has interest in the areas of writing to learn in science, science content for elementary teachers, and coastal and environmental education professional development for teachers. He has written and contributed to many academic journal articles including "The Invisible Science Educator," presented at the 2007 National Science Foundation conference.

Director of Teacher Education, Illinois Institute of Technology Dr. Judith Lederman has taught science in classrooms ranging from pre-K science to graduate level education courses and post-graduate professional development workshops. Dr. Lederman is known nationally and internationally for her work in the teaching and learning of Scientific Inquiry in both formal and informal settings. In 2008, she was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to work with a South African university, museum educators, and K-12 science teachers in the area of Scientific Inquiry and Nature of Science. Judith served on the Board of Directors of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and as President of the Council for Elementary Science International (CESI).

Associate Professor of Science Education, Ohio State University Dr. Kathy Trundle currently teaches master's and doctoral level courses in science education. She studies children's and adult's understandings of Earth and space science concepts, and she has been very active in the development of sciencce teacher education programs. Dr. Trundle was the recipient of the 2008 Outstanding Science Teacher Educator of the Year presented by the Association for Science Teacher Education, an international organization.

Professor of Teacher Education and Educational Psychology, Michigan State University Dr. Nell Duke's research and teaching focuses primarily on young children--pre-kindergarten through grade two. She is particularly interested in how young children learn to comprehend informational text and what teachers can do to facilitate that process. Dr. Duke has received awards for her research from the International Reading Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Reading Conference, and the American Educational Research Association. Very Interesting!

This book is about Hannibal Barca, who is introduced as a nine year-old boy when his mother was captured and killed by Romans. He and six other companions (Punt, Baraq, Cornelius, Auf, Hasrubel, and Leviticus) travel to Nubia in order to fulfill a prophecy and take revenge. I liked how this book had several characters that each had their own personalities. My favorite character is Auf because he is like an older brother and he cares and protects his friends. The scene where Auf was separated from Rudy, his pet rhino, meant something to me because it shows how much he cares for him, and he is able to look past the physical appearance of the rhino and embrace the child-like animal. This book is based on actual history which sets it apart from other books I have read. If I were to recommend this book I would say that it is very interesting, and that the characters the author created that surround Hannibal brought the whole book to life. The question I have after reading this book is, how much of it is real?

A Man's book, that women will love.

Refreshing read! This author never disappoints. I laughed and I cheered the entire book while wanting to be each heroic character at one point after another. All this time I was taught Hannibal was this European master mind and come to find out, he was just like me.

Good Book and worth a read!!!

Hannibal is quite a refreshing read. With a biblical undertone and backdrop, the focus is on the progressive growth of Hannibal who starts off as a young man full of rage and a disregard for authority, to someone who is able to fully submit his will for the better way. The relationships of the characters takes them all from being self seeking in their paths, to a fully united force that truly realizes their areas of weakness, and they allow love and growth to move them from stubborn, stiff necked, and self seeking, to being more introspective and open to change. Great read, please order a copy and walk with Hannibal from the shores of a self seeking nation, to a country where he's able to discover his own self work, the value of partnership, and the unity that submitting can bring. Wonderful!!!!

Johanna Budwig (1908-2003) who was nominated for the Nobel Prize seven times was one of Germany's leading scientists of the 20th Century, a biochemist and Cancer specialist with a special interest in essential fats. Otto Warburg proved that prime cause of cancer oxygen-deficiency in the cells. In absence of oxygen cells ferment glucose to produce energy, lactic acid is formed as a byproduct of fermentation. He postulated that sulfur containing protein and some unknown fat is required to attract oxygen in the cell. In 1951 Dr. Budwig developed Paper Chromatography to identify fats. With this technique she proved that electron rich highly unsaturated Linoleic and Linolenic fatty acids were the undiscovered mysterious decisive fats in respiratory enzyme function that Otto Warburg had been unable to find. She studied the electromagnetic function of pi-electrons of the linolenic acid in the membranes of the microstructure of protoplasm, for all nerve function, secretions, mitosis, as well as cell break-down. This immediately caused lot of excitement in the scientific community. New doors could open in Cancer research. Hydrogenated fats, including all Trans fatty acids were proved as respiratory poisons. She always refused to support the damaging chemo and radio for the sake of humanity. Dr. O. P. Verma's book is highly recommended to every cancer patient and to anyone interested in prevention of cancer.
The book is a very thorough and easy readable introduction to Dr. Johanna Budwig's method, which starts with bringing oxygen to the cells and energy to the body.
The book gives a lot of supplemental possibilities to fortify the method and bring it into a modern perspective.
The language used is formed by Dr. O. P. Verma's clinical experience and his contact with Mr. Lothar Herneise, who was educated by Dr. Johanna Budwig, and he has found a balance between explanations and transparency.

This is a very readable introduction to philosophy, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has done no previous reading in philosophy. It is a little short, but should serve to stimulate interest and provide a basis for further reading.

Brief philosophy at its very best.

I am a doctoral candidate in philosophy, and I still enjoyed reading this book. Never before have I seen such a brief, lucid introduction to some of the key problems of philosophy: Is there really an external world? Are there other minds? How does the mind relate to the brain? Is there such a thing as free will? What is the nature of morality and justice? How do words manage to refer to things? How should one feel about death? What is the meaning of life? Nagel offers short, engaging discussions of each.
One will not find in this book all of the major problems one is typically introduced to in a philosophy class - notably absent is the problem of induction and, except for a side note or two, the question of whether or not there is a god. However, one will find more than enough to stimulate much deep thought and many restless nights. Heartily recommended to all.

Not bad; very introductory.

I think highly of Thomas Nagel as a serious philosopher. If you don't have a clue about philosophy, this is probably about as good an introduction as you can get. Nagel writes about philosophical problems that have haunted human minds throughout the ages. It is intentionally ahistorical for the good reasons that Nagel gives.
If you have had exposure to philosophy in, say, a college level course, this book will be much too simple for you. But if you want something to grease the neurons to start thinking in the abstract way that is philosophical in character, then this book is for you. It's probably a great text for kids in a high school course or adults who are just realizing the benefit of stepping back from life for a moment or two to reflect on what it all means.

Informative and ground-breaking

This is one of the first titles Dr. N.A.M. Eskin wrote. It challenges the very limits of biochemistry and allows the reader to grasp a better understanding of the inner working of basic compounds and chemicals. His only mistake with writing this book is not giving us an overview of Pindaree's diagram which is probably essential to have in order for a student of biochemistry to more easily understand. But he outdoes himself by listing all compound deliverances and structures. It's a technical look at life, but unlike other textbooks there is a soul to his writings. He is a genius in his time and this book goes on to prove that very fact.
